The New Grandview Kids.
Hope. Belonging. Discovery. Celebration.

The new Grandview Kids will be built by The Children First Consortium, which was selected following an open, fair and competitive request for proposals in May 2021. While their proposal provides the best value for Ontario taxpayers, the Consortium partners also share the vision of hope, belonging, discovery and celebration.

Project funding

The project funding collectively stems from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, the Federal Government of Canada and community fundraising initiatives led by the Grandview Kids Foundation’s Believe Campaign.

Grandview Kids Foundation’s Believe Campaign has received two lead gifts: $5 million from the late Mr. Jerry Coughlan and $5,035,000 generously donated by The Regional Municipality of Durham. In addition, the Town of Ajax has generously donated five beautiful acres of land in north Ajax where the new Grandview Kids will be built.

To honour the significant donation from the late Mr. Jerry Coughlan, the new Grandview Kids facility of paediatric excellence will be named after him. This life-changing and historic progress have resulted from the incredible power of possibilities when our community, four levels of government, donors and supporters all work together to achieve a collective goal, and we are thrilled!

This monumental leap forward in Grandview Kids’ historical growth in paediatric excellence is made possible by our sincerely appreciated funders, donors, supporters, volunteers and community members who believe in Grandview Kids as much as we do. Our gratitude is as immense as our hearts and goals.

The future shines bright for Grandview Kids with hope, belonging, discovery, and celebration.

The new Grandview Kids will be a centre of paediatric excellence for families and children in our community, a place that feels like the warmth and comfort of home and hope. It is a place where all courageous Grandview kids will know that they belong, are essential, and matter. It will be a place where they can genuinely discover their tremendous potential and support their journey as families celebrate their child’s progress and achievements.

These are exciting times in our history, and all the pieces of this puzzle fit together, connecting our dreams and goals with exponential outcomes. These are forever moments and memories 14 years in the making, and we are so grateful for the collective support and involvement in our Believe Campaign.

Together, we can dream it, believe it and achieve it! Thank you for being part of this new exciting chapter and journey. Our community’s dedication to the Grandview Kids Foundation is forever etched in our hearts because it genuinely does take a village!

From Our Donors

“At Grandview Kids, we have a local community where we receive all these services in one place. Now Alden has words, meaningful and beautiful words that fill our hearts every day. Grandview Kids listens to us and our wishes for Alden. They give us the tools to help Alden succeed in a world that struggles to accept anything different.”

Alden’s Family

“We are so grateful to Grandview for their ongoing support. Without her entire team, Adaline would not be where she is today. We hope Adaline will continue to thrive and reach her full potential with her Grandview team guiding her every step of the way.”

Adaline’s Family

“Ethan has made some incredible gains. He is now walking and talking. In a few months, he will start junior kindergarten at Grandview’s Campbell Children’s School, where he will continue to benefit from everything Grandview has to offer our extraordinary kiddo. I can’t wait to see what Grandview helps Ethan accomplish next.“

Zayla’s Story

A story told by Lindsey Stevens

We knew from day one that we were in for a ride with our second child. When we brought her home from the hospital, we could tell that things would not be smooth sailing and affectionately referred to her as our “wild child.” She would even insist that she was born in the forest into a wolf pack and then brought to us. Some days, we honestly wondered if she was telling the truth.

Long days of meltdowns and tears from all parties left us wondering where we had gone wrong as parents and decided to seek help. We began our diagnosis journey before Zayla’s kindergarten enrollment and learned that she has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Those four letters (ADHD) opened the doors for her and our family to Grandview Kids.

Zayla is currently involved with the Recreational Therapy program within Grandview Kids. These services have done wonders for her self-regulation, transitioning and coping skills. The best part is that she doesn’t even realize it is therapy! It is remarkable to see her put the things she learns into practice.

The therapists are so helpful in assisting us as parents, as well. The changes are indeed night and day after implementing what we have learned on parenting a child with ADHD.

We are hopeful for her future after seeing such a positive change. It truly is a blessing to have access to these services. We know that because of the time that Zayla spends at Grandview Kids, her life will be forever changed for the better.

A message from Brigitte, the Executive Director of the Grandview Kids Foundation

As the Executive Director of the Grandview Kids Foundation, I want to thank all our friends and donors for supporting our $20 million Believe Campaign. The community of the Durham Region has rallied around Grandview Kids for many years.

Collaboratively we elevated the advocacy of the Centre to support a new Grandview Kids that provides seamless, coordinated care to children, youth and their families. Every dollar donated contributes to building this Centre of Paediatric Excellence as a place of hope, discovery, belonging and celebration.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, continued support and friendship, and most importantly, for believing in the possibilities, we can create together. We invite you to follow us in this exciting new chapter and journey by connecting with us on social media.

With tremendous gratitude,

Brigitte Tschinkel, CFRE
